Judith (poem)

Judith is an ancient English epic poem, with only a 350-piece fragment retained. The poem probably dates from the 10th century and is written in the all-time versatile verses. The poem tells the story of the apocryphal Bible book Judith. The fragment deals with the assassination of Holofernes, Judith's flight, the assault on the Assyrians and their subsequent defeat.

Only one version of the poem has been preserved. It is part of the codex Cotton Vitellius A. xv, which is mostly known for Beowulf's text and therefore also called the Beowulf Manuscript. In addition to Beowulf and Judith, the script contains some prose works. It is located in the British Library.
