Petaluma gap

The Petaluma Gap is a geographic region located in Sonoma County, California, and stretches from the Pacific Ocean to San Pablo Bay. The western end of the Petaluma Gap is located on the shallow coastal lands located between Bodega Bay and Tomales Bay. the east end is located in St. Paul's Bay around the Petaluma River. The City of Petaluma is located in the center of the Gap. The Petaluma Gap affects the climate of San Francisco Bay by allowing fresh sea air to reach the interior of the bay from the sea. The fresh sea air reduces the impact of heat on the vineyards located within the Petaluma Gap making the grapes grown in this region grow under ideal conditions of humidity and temperature. The Petaluma Gap is part of the Sonoma Coast AVA.

The Petaluma Gap grape growers created the Petaluma Gap Winegrowers Association to promote their grapes and differentiate themselves from the other growers in the Sonoma region.
