The United States Pentagon Police (USPPD), is the federal police force of the US Secretary of Defense. Its mission is to uphold the law and protect the Pentagon, the headquarters of the Department of Defense in Arlington, Virginia, near the federal capital, Washington, DC.
It enjoys exclusive jurisdiction over Pentagon-occupied land and shares this jurisdiction with other police forces (federal, state and local) over an area of approximately 1.11 km around the complex. USPPD police officers can also intervene on all the buildings occupied by the Department of Defense in the Washington area and the Military Court of Appeal in Washington, DC, and are also responsible for the protection of various senior figures of the Department of Defense. Its staff is a sworn civilian staff.
