Vital Van Landeghem


Vital Van Landeghem (Vilvoorde, November 29, 1912 - October 15, 1990) was a Belgian football player who acted as an attacker. He played in the First Class at Union Sint-Gillis where he was part of the team who left 60 games undefeated and in 1934 won the National Sports Trophy. In the same year Van Landeghem was also Belgian top scorer.

Van Landeghem went through the youth series at Vilvoorde FC and debuted there in 1929 in the first team who finished in second grade. At the end of the season, the club declined to Promotion, the current Fourth grade. He spent two more seasons playing football.

In 1932, Union Sint-Gillis, who was active in First Class, attracted him and immediately conquered a base. Van Landeghem joined the team national champion in 1933, 1934 and 1935, and was part of the team who left 60 matches untill 1933 and won the National Sports Trophy in 1934. In that same year, Van Landeghem was also top scorer in the First Class with 29 goals. He continued playing football until 1938 and played 123 games in which he scored 109 goals.

In 1938, he pulled RC Tienen for a season that was just down to Second Class. After the league resumed after the interruption for the Second World War, Van Landeghem started again in Vilvoorde FC in 1941, which also came in second grade. He set a point behind his football career in 1946.

Van Landeghem played in 1932 for the Belgian football team. In the match against Austria losing Belgium by 1-6, Van Landeghem made the only Belgian goal.
