Abruzzes spur

The Abruzzo spur (southeast corner) is considered the "normal" or easiest way to climb to K2, although there are no roads that can be considered easy on this mountain. It is an escalation in mixed terrain (rock, snow and ice) of sustained difficulty and constant danger of avalanches and landslides from Field I. To this must be added extreme altitude and wind, cold and storms that unpredictable weather of Karakórum can generate at any time. The result of all this is that although K2 is about two hundred meters lower than Everest, its ascent is considered to be of much greater prestige in mountain climates. Not in vain is it called the K2 as the wild mountain or the mountain of the mountains. The name of the route is due to Luis Amadeo of Savoy (Duke of the Abruzzi), an Italian explorer who, in command of a great expedition, in 1909 reached the altitude of 6,000 meters by the edge that, in his honor, today bears his name.
