Central Nuclear Shearon Harris

The Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant consists of a single pressurized water reactor from Westinghouse operated by Progress Energy. Located in New Hill, North Carolina about 30 km southwest of Raleigh, North Carolina, it generates 860 MWe, has a 160 m natural draft cooling tower, and uses the waters of Lake Harris for cooling. The reactor reached its critical point in January 1987 and began to supply energy commercially in May of that year.

The Shearon Harris site, initially designed for four reactors, has been selected by Progress Energy to add another reactor.
