Gothic study

Etude gothique after the "redesign"

Etude gothique in a work of art by the Dutch artist Marinus Boezem, located on the Pensmarkt, next to the Bossche Markt in 's-Hertogenbosch. The image was made in 1985 in honor of the 800th anniversary of 's-Hertogenbosch. Striking is that work was at the oldest and highest point in 's-Hertogenbosch.

Finally, work in conjunction with Boezem was reversed in 2008 due to market renovations. A copy of the first work of art, has replaced the old work. Image

Etude gothique (translated from French: Gothic study) is made of granito. This material was very revolutionary in the Netherlands before the time the artwork was manufactured. Three colors were used; black, purple and gray. The picture was 30 centimeters high and served as a seat for the Bosschenaren. What the image suggests is only really good from the top: the precipitation of a gothic crossbreed. The top layer of the image was polished and thus reflected the sky. The image was oblique to The Moriaan, the oldest brick house in the Netherlands. Second image

In early 2008, the municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch began a comprehensive refurbishment of the Market. In this new arrangement, the work of art did not fit according to the municipality. It should therefore be demolished and place for a mark in the pavement. Several bosses then went against this decision because the image offers a good seating. For this reason, the municipality decided to move the image a few meters in the south direction. However, the state in which the image was wrong did not turn out to be able to move it. The used granito was not found to be sustainable enough. Therefore, in consultation with Marinus Boezem, it was decided to make a second Etude gothique. This is slightly higher, in order to better meet the needs of residents for the function of the work as a seat. The new image is shifted and is made in contrast to the first image of natural stone. The old image was deleted in the last week of February 2008. 51° 41′ 22″ NB, 5° 18′ 10″ OL
