The Hish (Hebrew: חי"ש, acronym for Heil hasadé (חיל השדה), lit. Terrestrial troops) was a unit formed by the Haganah in the British Mandate of Palestine in 1939 after the dissolution of another force of minor This is known as the Fosh, these were the main brigades of the Haganah, along with the Him and the Palmach.
The year 1939 was a turning point for Jewish self-defense forces. Orde Wingate was transferred outside the Mandate and the Fosh was replaced by a less mobile but permanent "tropa terrestre". The forces were formed with men with basic military training in units of Civil Guard, Heil Mishmar. With Plugot Meyuhadot (Pum) they disguised the "Special Brigades" to wage a war against the Arabs.
