José María Peralta Lagos


José María Peralta Lagos (Santa Tecla, El Salvador, July 25, 1873-Guatemala City, July 22, 1944), general and engineer, was a Salvadoran writer, soldier, and politician; wrote under the pseudonym of T.P. Mechín.

He studied at the Academy of Engineers of Guadalajara, Spain. He headed the construction works of the National Theater of San Salvador at the beginning of the 20th century, together with the engineer José Emilio Alcaine. He was the diplomatic representative of El Salvador in Spain and Minister of War and Navy in the government of President Manuel Enrique Araujo (1911-1913), he served as a number member of the Salvadoran Academy of the Language.

Peralta Lagos's prose is costumbrista and is written in a humorous and sometimes ironic way.
