National Renewal Movement

The National Renewal Movement (MORENA) was a Panamanian political party with a neoliberal tendency.

It was founded on December 27, 1993 by a dissident faction of the Agrarian Labor Party (PALA) .In the 1994 general elections, it joined the Alliance for Change '94, which nominated Rubén Darío Carles as candidate presidential. The MORENA contributed 32,122 votes in the elections (3.01% of the total) and one deputy of the National Assembly, but Carles was in fourth place.

In the 1999 general elections, MORENA joined the Union for Panama alliance of candidate Mireya Moscoso. Despite the victory of Moscoso, the MORENA only contributed some 28,487 votes (2.24% of the total) and one deputy to the National Assembly, so it did not meet the minimum quota required by the Electoral Tribunal and was dissolved.
