Symphonic Wind Orchestra Excelsior Pijnacker


The Symphonic Wind Orchestra Excelsior Pijnacker was founded as the Excelsior Music Association on 19 February 1910 in Pijnacker. Founders were Mr. Wassink and Mr. de Bruin. They had the Chr one month earlier. Hallelujah singing association founded. During the founding meeting, spontaneous twenty members reported. The music that was honored in the early days consisted mainly of marches, psalms and songs from the songbook.

In 1956, the fanfare was transformed into a harmony and in that same year, the creation of a tambour corps followed. Another remarkable fact is the admission of women to the Harmony. In 1957, extensive discussion was discussed, but it took until 1961 before the first woman at Excelsior performed her shows. In the past 95 years, ten conductors have been linked to Excelsior. Jurgen van Groningen Schinkel has been the new conductor of the Excelsior since August 2012. The association will comprise about 60 members in 2008 and consists of three departments: the Symphonic Wind Orchestra, the Aspirant Orchestral and the Music Education and will act in the third division.
