The Daulatpur-Saturia tornado was an extremely destructive tornado that occurred in the Manikganj district of Bangladesh on 26 April 1989. It has been the most costly and deadliest tornado in Bangladesh's history; despite great uncertainty about the death toll, estimates indicate that it killed about 1,300 people, making it the deadliest tornado in world history. The tornado affected the cities of Daulatpur and Saturia, moving east through Daulatpur and, by the northeast in Saturia. One of the most likely causes of the tornado's creation was an extensive 6-month drought in the area, possibly creating conditions for the creation of these climatological events. Consequences

The damage was over a considerably large area. Countless trees were uprooted and literally all the dwellings in an area of 6 square kilometers (km²) of the tornado's path were completely destroyed. The tornado was estimated to be about one mile wide, and advanced for about 50 kilometers in length, across the poorer areas and suburbs of Bangladesh. Approximately 80,000 people were left homeless, 12,000 were injured and about 1,300 died from the tornado. The localities of Saturia and Manikganj were totally destroyed by the tornado. The Fujita-Pearson scale rating of this tornado is unknown, due to poor housing construction and lack of data; however it is estimated that it was F3. Frequency

Bangladesh is one of the countries with one of the highest frequencies of tornadoes, only behind the United States, Canada and Argentina. Bangladesh has received other fatal tornadoes, but this one in particular was the worst in the country's history .
