Max Miedinger (Zurich, December 24, 1910 - Zurich, March 8, 1980) was a Swiss letter designer, best known for his creation of Helvetica.

Life

Miedinger first worked as a salesman and sat at the Swiss writing company Haas'sche Schriftgiesserei and learned from Edouard Hoffmann, from 1926 to 1930, who ran the literary at that time. Haas Grotesk of Helvetica

In his spare time, Miedinger was working on making a more modern version of the now-popular Akzidenz Grotesk. The result was initially called 'Haas Grotesk' and published in 1956 with the name Helvetica.
