Party Unionist (Faroe Islands)

The Unionist Party or Union Party (in Faroese, Sambandsflokkurin, abbreviated SB) is a political party of the Faroe Islands located on the political right. It is currently the party in government and the second force in the Faroese parliament (Løgting).

The party defends a liberal economic policy as well as the development of the Faroese culture and especially the continuation of the Faeroe Islands within Denmark through the Rigsfællesskabet (Commonwealth of the Kingdom). The party has no fixed political ideology, but traditionally it has been considered conservative and sometimes liberal.

The Unionist Party is the oldest in the Faroe Islands. It was founded in 1906 and has since been represented in the Løgting (Faroese parliament).

In the last elections (2008), he received 21% of the votes and 7 seats in parliament. After being opposed for a short time after the elections, the Unionist Party formed a government in September 2008 and its leader, Kaj Leo Johannesen, was the prime minister of the Faroe Islands.
