Saccharibacteria

Saccharibacteria is a recently proposed candidate bacterial phylum, previously known as TM7, probably belonging to the superfilid Patescibacteria. Through the study of environmental samples of mRNA it has been found that the members of this cutting edge are widely distributed by the environment. Thus, they have been found in soils, sediments, wastewater and animals. They also appear in samples collected in hospitals. The various species are in the form of fine or coarse filaments, cocci or bacilli.

Genetic studies indicate that Saccharibacteria is a phylogenetically diverse group and plays an important role in the degradation of various organic compounds under aerobic, nitrate reducing and anaerobic conditions. The name given to the cutting edge refers to its ability to break down sugars, which is part of the CPR (candidate phyla radiation) group, an extensive phylogenetic line of newly discovered bacteria.
