The Instituto de Estudios Bercianos (IEB) is an association that has its origins in 1959. Its objectives include the dissemination and protection of culture and heritage of El Bierzo. It has no ideological link. It has its headquarters in the lows of the Municipal Library of Ponferrada.

Throughout these years, it has compiled all kinds of publications on the region of El Bierzo, and has contributed to the publication of various books on history, music and linguistics, as well as the reissue of related books with the said region; drives excavations and organizes various events throughout the year.

It has reached a certain relevance in the region, being requested its collaboration by the local institutions, realizing great amount of activities, among which stand out the I Congress of Cultural Berciana and the Congress on the Marquis of Villafranca, among others. / p>

IEB collaborates with renowned authors such as Luis López Álvarez, Ramón Carnicer Blanco, Raúl Guerra Garrido, Valentín García Yebra, Manuel Gutiérrez Tuñón, Francisco González González, among many others.

They manage several resources in collaboration with different institutions, such as the Archaeological Classroom of Las Médulas. Among other goods, recently has acquired the plot of the Pedreiras, near Las Médulas, which contains the remains of a Roman villa of singular importance. These remains have recently been repopulated to prevent spoiling.
