The Lord Provost (in Scottish Gaelic: Àrd-Phrobhaist) is the representative of the municipal authority in the main cities of Scotland.

Only four cities (Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow) have the right to appoint a Lord Provost at their head instead of a mayor. The Lord Provost of Edinburgh or Glasgow bear the title The Right Honorable in front of their name. Other local authorities in Scotland have a Provost.

A Lord Provost has a higher protocol status than a Lord Mayor. He is of right the Lord Lieutenant of his city - allowing the city council to choose his own representative of the queen. change the code
