The National Patriotic Party (NPP) is a Liberian political party headed by the politician, state official, caudillo, military leader of the rebel group Liberia National Patriotic Front (in English: National Patriotic Front of Liberia "NPFL"), and President of Liberia (1997-2003) Charles Ghankay Taylor, who caused the First Liberian Civil War. On July 19, 1997, leader of the National Patriotic Party Charles Taylor wins the presidential election and many of the supporters of this political party gain 64 positions in the House of Representatives and 26 positions in the Senate. In 2003 Charles Taylor could not continue in the presidency due to 2 causes, the first cause was the intense and ferocious rebellion carried out by 2 rebel groups, the first rebel group that launched his attack was the one of the Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy (LURD) and the second rebel group that allied with the rebel group LURD was the Movement for Democracy in Liberia (Movement for Democracy in Liberia "MODEL") and the second cause were the international pressures against the president made him resign from his position in 2003.

On October 11, 2005, during the election, the candidate of the party Roland Massaquoi launched for the campaign as president in which he lost but won 4 positions in the Senate and 4 in the House of Representatives. >
