Yefim Bronfman emigrated to Israel when he was 15; meanwhile he is an american citizen. His international debut was performed at the Montreal Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Zubin Mehta in 1975.

In Carnegie Hall, he debuted in 1989 and gave a series of recitals with Isaac Stern in 1991. He won a Grammy Award in 1997 for his recording of Bartók's three piano concerts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra under the leadership of Esa-Pekka The salon. In March 2006, he performed the piano concert of Shostakovich with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra was directed by Mstislav Rostropovich.
