Creon (of Corinth)

Creon or Kre (o) on (Greek: Κρέων) is the name of a legendary King of Corinth.

Because he had no son himself, King Creon really wanted to connect his daughter Creuse to the hero Jason of Thessaly, who lived in town with his wife Medea. For that reason, Jason's marriage had to be dissolved first. Because Jason saw a chance to become King of Corinth himself, he tried to convince Medea with rational arguments of the use of divorce.

Jealous and deeply hurt, Medea took revenge by not only Creon but also his daughter to bring life through black magic. Under pretext that they relied upon the facts, they gave the young bride a enchanted robe. As soon as Creüsa hit this, it fled immediately, and she was consumed by her flames with her father.

The fateful story of Creon is dealt with in Euripides' tragedy Medea.
