Heraclides of Taranto

Heraclides of Taranto, (3rd-2nd century BC), was an ancient Greek physician of the empirical school who wrote commentaries on the works of Hippocrates. He came from Taranto, was a pupil of Mantias, and probably lived during the second or second century BC, somewhat later than Apollonius Empiricus and Glaucias. He was a follower of the Empirical School, and wrote some books on Matter medical, which were frequently by Galen, but of which only a few fragments have survived. He was also one of the first people to write commentaries on the Hippocratic treatises and is often d by Celio Aureliano and other early authors.
