Măcin, pronounced "Metchine", is a city and a small port on the right bank of the Danube, in the south-east of Romania, in Dobrogea, in the Hercynian massif of Măcin, in the department of Tulcea. Populated with about 12100 inhabitants, it is twinned with Blaye since July 7, 1991. The name of the massif, very eroded, seems to come from the Romanian verb a măcina (to grind) and to mean "ground"; the ancient name was Arrubium (archaeological site). change the code
