Sears (department store)

Sears, Roebuck and Co. (also known as Sears) is an American department store. History

Sears was founded in 1893 by Richard Warren Sears and Alvah Curtis Roebuck. The company started as a mail order company, but expanded into one of the largest department stores in the United States in the middle of the 20th century.

The company was acquired in 2005 by competitor Kmart, and the new company was named Sears Holdings Corporation. However, both brands will remain, although several Kmart sites have been transformed into Sears Grand stores.
