Vocations

The vocons (in Latin Vocontii) were a town of Narbonne Gaul, between the Rhône and the Alps.

Hannibal passed through his territory as he crossed the Alps.

Ptolemy mentions only one city with the name of Vasio as a city of vocations. Julius Caesar says that they had as neighbors to the north the alóbroges, and Strabo places to the east to the Cavares (whose situation is not well determined). To the north of Vasio (Civitas Vasiensium or Vasionensium) was the city of Dea (Civitas Deentium) and between both the one of Lucus Augusti. The vocons lived between the Isère and the Durance, in the present Vaison and Die and part of the countries of Gap and Sisteron, that is, part of the department of Droma. Pliny the Elder mentions them as federated with Rome and says that its capital was Vasio and the second city Lucus Augusti, and in total says that they had 19 other towns.
