Automatic Braking

Automatic Point Braking (FAP) is a safety system used on railways. The term is usually applied exclusively for metro and metro rail safety systems (although its operation is the same as other general rail safety systems such as ASFA or English ATP) to distinguish it from continuous protection systems call ATP).

The function of the FAP is to prevent the train or tram from overflowing red or flowing above the maximum speed of the track.

Functioning

The FAP system has two types of beacons along the track:

In addition a team on board the train is able to read the beacons and apply braking when necessary. Security

As the check is limited to the points in which the beacon is located, with a FAP system it is possible to exceed the maximum speed between beacon and beacon, so it is considered a less secure system than ATP. Networks with FAP In Spain

The FAP is usually used on metro lines with metropolitan characteristics (infrequency and distance), such as MetroValencia, Palma de Mallorca Metro or Metropolitan of Granada.
