Site of Oaxaca

Oaxaca Site means the two military sieges suffered by the city of Oaxaca de Juárez, capital of the State of Oaxaca, Mexico, during the Second French Intervention in Mexico. The first one was developed at the beginning of 1865, on the part of the French troops, commanded by Achilles Bazaine. After several months of siege, Porfirio Diaz, commander of the liberal place, surrendered and the city fell in his hands. In January 1867 the second site of Oaxaca took place, but this time the French were besieged, and Diaz was the liberal commander who attacked the city. On March 16, the French were expelled from Oaxaca.
