Teresa Salgueiro

Teresa Salgueiro

Teresa Salgueiro (also spelled as Tereza Salgueiro) (Amadora, January 8, 1969) is a Portuguese singer. She acquired fame as Madredeus singer between 1987 and 2007.

As a young girl, Salgueiro sang the traditional Portuguese fado and Brazilian bossa nova in Lisbon's streets and bars. At her sixteenth, she moved to the old city of Lisbon to live with friends.

In 1987, Salgueiro guitarist and producer Pedro Ayres Magalhães met Madredeus, together with Francisco Ribeiro on cello, Gabriel Gomes on accordion and Rodrigo Leão on keyboards. The band took eleven albums and performed performances all over the world.

Salgueiro played a prominent role in the Lisbon Story (Viagem a Lisboa) film by Wim Wenders in 1994, together with Magalhães. Together with Madredeus, she recorded the soundtrack of the movie, released as the album Ainda.

Salgueiro sang on albums by Carlos Nuñez and António Chainho, released in 2000.

In November 2005, she took her first solo CD (Obrigado), collaborating with musicians like Caetano Veloso, Carlos Núñez, José Carreras and Angelo Branduardi. In 2009, she changed the spelling of her artist name to Tereza Salgueiro (with a z) and released the album Matriz. Discography
