Cipriano de Valera

Cipriano de Valera (Fregenal de la Sierra, 1532 - London, 1602) was a Spanish Bible speaker. He played a key role in the first revision of Casiodoro de Reina's Bible Translation, which later became known as the Reina-Valera. Valera, like Reina, has been monk in the monastery of the Hieronymus in Santiponce. He was a follower of John Calvin and has translated part of his work to Spanish. In 1558 he settled in England, where he spent the rest of his life as an exile. He taught arts, theology and Spanish in Cambridge, Oxford and London. In 1582 he began to revise the Bible translation of Reina. After this revision, which appeared in 1602, the translation continued to bear their own names, even after subsequent revisions.
