Konoe Sakihisa

Konoe Sakihisa (近衛 前 久, 1536 - June 7, 1612) was a kuge (courtier) who acted as regent at the end of the Muromachi era and early Azuchi-Momoyama era. He was the son of Regent Konoe Taney.

He occupied the position of kanpaku of Emperor Go-Nara and Emperor Ōgimachi between 1554 and 1568.

He was active in military and political circles; and was a member of the Konoe family, one of the main branches of the Fujiwara clan. He was sympathetic to Oda Nobunaga and accompanied him to Kōshū in his campaign against the Takeda clan.

In 1582, he received the office of Daijō Daijin, but resigned in the same year. He also served as Sadaijin.

He had Konoe Nobutada as his son; his daughter Sakiko was adopted by Toyotomi Hideyoshi and was consort of the Emperor Go-Yōzei, giving birth to the Emperor Go-Mizunoo. In 1585 he adopted Toyotomi Hideyoshi as his son, consequently, gave the Hideyoshi the legitimacy of the Fujiwara clan, to assume the position of kanpaku.
