SharedX was a tool developed by HP in the mid-1980s to allow X-Servers to "share" a window, thereby allowing users across multiple workstations to interact with the same X Window. The intent was to provide real-time collaboration in an X11 network environment. A decade later, this effort would be called "desktop sharing", with VNC being a major player in this area. The first version was developed in HP laboratories in 1988 by Dan Garfinkel and Steve Lowder, based on work previously done by Phil Gust.

The ShareX tool was provided in HP-UX versions.
