Ypiranga (Schip, 1908)

The SS Ypiranga or SS Ipiranga was a Hamburg-America Line ship that played a role in Mexico's history at various times. The Yparanga was a steamer delivered in 1908.

On May 31, 1911 after the outbreak of the Mexican Revolution, the Yparanga was the ship on which the resigned Porfirio Díaz, who had ruled since 1876, escaped his wife Carmen Romero Rubio and Vice President Ramón Corral. The ship transported Díaz and the Veracruz's people to France.

Three years later, the ship departed from Germany with a barge of weapons aboard Veracruz, although it was declared as official destination Odessa in the Russian Empire, as the United States had imposed a arms embargo against Mexico, where a civil war occurred at that time between the Constitutionalist Army and the Federal Army of dictator Victoriano Huerta. When this message came to the attention of US President Woodrow Wilson, they sent the US Navy to Veracruz to occupy this city. The captain of the Ypiranga was given a time of air, and shifted her direction to Puerto México, where the weapons were still delivered. This incident would be one of the reasons for Huerta's fall later that year.

In 1917, during the First World War, the ship was seized by the US Navy.
