Alaeddin Pasha

Alaeddin Pasha was the first Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire. His father's name was Kemalettin and therefore he is often called Hacı Kemalettin oğlu Alaeddin Pasha or Alaeddin bin Hacı Kemalletin, which means "son of Hacı Kemalettin". It was probably from the city of Cendere, from where the famous Candarli Family was also native. He was a fakih (expert in Islamic law). He was appointed vizier during the last years of the reign of Osman I (probably in 1320). Continued during the reign of Orhan I. Since there was only one vizier on the couch during the first years of the Ottoman Beylicate, his title was not really a grand vizier, but his position was equivalent to the post of the later great viziers. Because of this, he is considered the first Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire.

He founded the first permanent army of the Ottoman Sultan, who would later become the Janissaries. The new body wore white caps in contrast to the earlier reds of the Turkmen soldiers. The service of Alaeddin as grand vizier ended before 1333. Trivia

Some sources claim that Alaeddin Pasha was Orhan's brother. Although Orhan had a brother named Ala al-Din Ali, his brother Ala al-din ali and Aleddin Pasha are believed to be not the same person.
