The American Optical Society (OSA) is an organization dedicated to research and education in the field of optics. It was founded in 1916 and is headquartered in Washington, DC.
By the year 2005 it has more than 14,000 members and is present in more than eighty countries.
The OSA has several periodical publications such as the Gazette of the American Optical Society (Journal of the Optical Society of America) and the Gazette of Optical Networks (Journal of Optical Networking); as well as the magazine OPN (News of Optics and Photonics, for its acronym in English).
Its current executive director is Elizabeth Rogan
