Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty

The Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty was an agreement between the United States and the Soviet Union to limit the number of anti-ballistic missile systems (ABM) used to defend certain sites against nuclear-charged missiles. On May 26, 1972, US President Richard Nixon and the Secretary General of the Communist Party Central Committee, Leonid Brézhnev, signed the treaty, which was in force for 30 years until 2002. On June 13, 2002, six months later to announce it, the United States withdrew from the agreement.
