Frédéric Bamvuginyumvira


Frédéric Bamvuginyumvira (born June 24, 1961) was the 1st Vice-President of Burundi from June 11, 1998 to November 1, 2001. He belongs to the Hutu ethnic group.

A candidate representing the Front for Democracy in Burundi (FRODEBU) was nominated in the legislative elections of 29 June 1993, obtaining a seat representing the Province of Kirundo.

On 11 June 1998, he was appointed 1st Vice-President (responsible for political and administrative affairs), by Acting President Pierre Buyoya. He held that position until a new coalition power was installed on November 1, 2001.

On December 6, 2013, he was arrested while driving through the streets of Bujumbura and was accused of attempting to bribe the policemen who arrested him. This took him to prison, despite the government withdrawing all of its original charges.
