keratolytic

A keratolytic product or drug takes off and removes the keratin layer from the skin.

Keratolytics are indicated in conditions where the horny layer of the epidermis produces an excess of keratin (warts, psoriasis, certain forms of acne, etc.). They are used mainly in local applications (creams, solutions). Sometimes, they can cause allergies or irritations, especially if they are mistakenly applied to the eyes, mucous membranes or lesions where the skin is open (wound, acute eczema).
