Max August Zorn

Max August Zorn (1930)

Max Augustus Zorn (Krefeld, June 6, 1906 - Bloomington, Indiana, March 9, 1993) was a German mathematician born in Germany. He was active in the fields of abstract algebra, group theory and numerical analysis. He is the author of Zorn's lemma, a powerful instrument in the collection theory. This lemma can be applied to a wide range of mathematical constructs, such as vector spaces, partially ordered collections and other constructs. Zorn's lemma was first discovered in 1922 by Kazimierz Kuratowski and thirteen years later, independent of Kuratowski, by Zorn. Also see Externe link
