Royston Sta María (born November 24, 1951 in Malacca) is a Malaysian singer and songwriter.

Biography

Royston attended the St. Francis Institution where he earned a 2nd degree, through a certificate of study abroad and Education of Malaysia.

Roy took an interest in music and started at an early age, won at school after participating in a talent contest. After finishing high school, St. Mary had the opportunity to develop her musical interests when she was offered to join a band of her father as a bass player. At age 19, Sta Maria was already performing every night at a hotel called "New Straits View in Johor Bahru."

After two years of playing nightclubs and performing floor-shows, Sta. Maria decided to leave her band and spend in the greenest gardens in Kuala Lumpur. In Kuala Lumpur, St. Mary decided to study a management course in the hotel industry. To stay, Sta Maria worked as a waiter in a cafe in the "Fitzpatrick" building in Jalan Raja Chulan. It was from this first encounter that Sta Maria decided to form a duet with Fran. It was called "Roy & Fran". One night, while they were performing at a café, S. Second Placing for "Mulanya Di Sini" performed by Freedom. The song also helped propel the Freedom band who performed it to stardom. Not long after, Malaysia Airlines adopted the song as their jingle and theme song in their promotions.
