Sister (area de Léningrad)

Do not confuse with the Sestra, river of the same name in the Moscow Oblast

The Sestra is a river in the Leningrad Oblast, in the Karelian Isthmus, which marked the border between Sweden and Russia between 1323 and 1617, and between the Grand Duchy of Finland and Imperial Russia between 1812 and December 1917, then between the Republic of Finland and the USSR between December 1917 and 1940.

The river measures 74 km for a 393 km basin. It begins in the marshes of the village of Lesnoye, Vsevolozhsk district, and empties into the water reservoir of the artificial Sestroretsk lake, 35 km northwest of St. Petersburg.
