The TO-220 is a type of encapsulation of electronic devices, commonly used in transistors, voltage regulators and various integrated circuits. The TO-220 package usually has three legs, although there are also two, four, five and even seven legs. A notable feature of this type of encapsulation is the metal back, which has a hole used to mount the device on a dissipator.
