V.92

V.92 is an ITU-T recommendation entitled "Improvements to Recommendation V.90" ("Enhancements to Recommendation V.90"). This standard establishes a standard for modems that allows transmissions of up to 56 Kbit / s in the downstream channel and 48 Kbit / s in the upstream channel, increasing the speed of the upstream channel by 30%. It also uses PCM for both channels while the previous 56K modems used PCM only for downloading data.

V.92 was introduced in August 1999. Thought to be the successor to the V.90 standard, it did not achieve much success due to the proliferation of broadband internet access Improvements on the recommendation V.90

V.92 was the successor of V.90 in 56 kbps modems established by the ITU in June 2000. This standard improves the connection speed for millions of users, it also allows them to accept calls while they are on the go, increases the Download speed and allows easier handling of calls.

Calls are accepted and the internet connection is not cut but remains in the "pending" state. You can not talk and surf the internet at the same time.

Allows 3 new functions: "Modem on Hold", "Quick Connect", "V.PCM upstream". The first is the, already named ability to receive call while navigating. Thanks to this technology, the user's phone will not give a busy tone while surfing the internet. The second refers to the increase in connection speed. The modem can compare the new call with the previous one and, if the line conditions are similar (as it will often happen when calling the same POP on the same telephone line), you can omit parts of the test sequence. This can reduce the connection time by 50% or more. And the third one refers to the higher speed of data transmission. It is especially good if the user likes to play online, for example, since it sends commands at high speed.
