Bussemakerhuis

The Bussemakerhuis is a national monument on Ennekerdijk 11 in the Twentse Borne in the Dutch province of Overijssel.

The Bussemaker House dates back to 1655 when it was built as a home and trading house. The fabriekur Jan Bussemaker reconstructed it in 1779 with his wife Trijntjen Hulshoff in his present form. From this the baptist Bussemaker pursued his trade; He provided the Twente home weavers of yarn and bought their linen to sell them in Holland. Together with the textile manufacturer Salomon Jacob Spanjaard, they provided the poor people of Bornholm with work and thus income.

After the last busmakers left the house, the property was rented out to private individuals for a longer period. In 1956, the foundation Bussemakerhuis was founded and became the owner of the property as well as of the mansions in Borne. The house, with a bell-facade with sandstone stoves, is the only preserved factory house in Overijssel and largely in its original state. From the early 1990's, the Bussemaker house was opened to the public. 52° 17′ 58″ NB, 6° 45′ 38″ OL
