Elysee-verdrag

Signing of the Élysée Convention

The Élysée treaty, also known as the treaty of friendship, was a treaty signed by the German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer and the French President Charles de Gaulle on January 22, 1963, at the Paris Elysée Palace, for the friendship between France and Germany.

The Franco-German Friendship Convention was a symbol of post-war reconciliation between Germany and France, and was an important building block for further European cooperation.

Adenauer and De Gaulle wanted to intensify bilateral relations, saying that the German and French governments would in future have regular consultations on security issues and foreign policy.

To date, French-German cooperation can be reconnected to this treaty.

In circulation there is also a commemorative coin of 2 euros to commemorate this treaty.
