Philibert de Chandée


Philibert de Chandée (died after 1486 in Brittany or France) was a French mercenary who became a peer of England.

Philibert meets the pretender to the throne of England Henri Tudor during his exile in Brittany. He gathers French soldiers when Tudor decided to land in England in the summer of 1485. Chandée is knighted by Tudor at Milford Haven on August 7, 1485. At the Battle of Bosworth on August 22, he defends Tudor when King Richard III launches a charge intended to eliminate it. Tudor is proclaimed king under the name of Henry VII at the end of the battle.
