Žagarė

Žagarė is a small town in northern Lithuania, next to the Latvian border. Located in the County of Šiauliai, Municipality of Joniškis, on the banks of the river Švėtė. It is a center of commune. It had 2,208 inhabitants in 2005.

It is a catholic church of Santos Apóstoles Pedro and Pablo. There are 2 architectural monuments: Hill of Žagarė and Grupa Arquitecturica de Žagarė (palace and park).

Known town of 1254 named Sagera. Žagarė was an important center of warriors of Semigalia. In thirteenth century ruined Teutonic Order. They developed like two localities New Žagarė and Old Žagarė. In the 19th century it joined the city Žagarė.
