Agostinho Pimenta


Agostinho Pimenta, also known by his pseudonym Fray Agostinho da Cruz (Ponte da Barca, 1540 - Setúbal, 1619) was a Portuguese poet and monk.

At the age of twenty he entered the Order of the Capuchin Friars Minor, and his life was spent in the Capuchos Convent of Sintra, in the Ribamar Convent of Lourinhã and in the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Arrábida, where he remained for twenty years .

Agostinho Pimenta, brother of the poet Diogo Bernardes, wrote mainly elegies and sonnets. The works of this poet were not published until the eighteenth century, when in 1771 a volume was published with his Works.
