Beerwout I

Beerwout, Sir of Egmont (ca. 1050 - 1114) was ruler of Egmont.

Beerwout had promised to abbot Stephanus van Gendt, guardian of Egmond's abbey, to go with the First Crusade to forget about the sin of himself and his ancestors. Upon returning, the Abbot had declared its tenth tenant to glory and also the inheritance in writing.

According to some popular stories, Beerwout would already died in 1096 on the way to the Holy Land, and his territory in Egmond was still declared a glory. He was succeeded by his son Beerwout II of Egmont.
