The Ecological Society of China or Chinese Society of Ecology (ESC), founded in December 1979, is a national non-profit academic organization. It is affiliated with the China Association for Science and Technology and is one of the most important social forces to promote research and ecological practices in China. He is responsible for the publication of the Acta Ecologica Sinica magazine.
After more than 30 years, ESC is now one of the first-degree national societies with more than 7,800 members, more than eight member groups, 18 special committees, and five work commissions. Seven outstanding ecologists, academician M.A.Shijun, academician Sun Ruyong, Prof. Chen Changdu, Prof. Wang Zuwang, Academician and Prof. Li Wenhua Wang Rusong, Prof. Liu Shirong were elected as ESC presidents successively. In 1984, the ESC joined the International Society of Ecology.
