Edgar Wilson "Bill" Nye (1850 - 1896) was a distinguished American journalist, who later became a well-known comedian. He was also the founder and editor of Laramie Boomerang.

Nye was born in Shirley, Maine, and adopted the name "Bill Nye" after meeting a character in a famous Bret Harte poem.

The Boomerang was fuendado while Nye was head of mail. This fact hastened him to fame, winning subscribers in all states and in foreign countries.

Some of his works include: Bill Nye's US Comic Story, Bill Nye and Boomerang, Bill Nye's English Story, and Bill Nye's The Red Book.

Later in his career he partnered with James Whitcomb Riley with whom he wrote two books. They also appeared together in a reading circuit ?. I even travel and went with Luther Burbank.

He died of meningitis. A memorial commemorates him in Pierce County, Wisconsin, between the cities of Prescott and River Falls. A small monument marks his birthplace in Shirley, Maine.
