Egon von Bönninghausen (1899-1943)


Egon Lodewijk Maria Theresia Jozef von Bönninghausen (Amsterdam, March 15, 1899 - Stalino, February 26, 1943) was a Dutch youth, NSB politician and eastern fraternity.

He was a member of the genus Von Bönninghausen and was Lord of Herinckhave. His father was the director of a life insurance company. His brother Ernst von Bönninghausen was also a NSB fan and was mayor of Tubbergen and van Hilversum. His uncle Egon von Bönninghausen was Mayor of Borne.

In 1926 Von Bönninghausen was appointed Mayor of Ootmarsum, after Alexander Eppo van Voorst to Voorst had recommended him to the Minister of Home Affairs. In the period 1927-1931 he was involved in the "Ootmarsum school school" because he refused to implement a council decision to build a Catholic boys school. In 1932 and 1938 Von Bönninghausen was reappointed. He was fired on 1 March 1939 because of pro German declarations during a hunting meal. His appeal against this dismissal was rejected by the Central Board of Appeal on 26 October 1939.

In March 1940 he became a member of the NSB. By decision of Secretary-General Frederiks van Binnenlandse Zaken of 18 September 1940, Von Bönninghausen was appointed Mayor of Tubbergen. As from August 9, 1941, he was appointed by the State Commissioner for the Occupied Dutch Area as Commissioner of the Province of Overijssel, as successor to Alexander Eppo from Voorst tot Voorst.

As a volunteer of the Waffen-SS volunteer nation, he left on August 28, 1942 with leave to the Oostfront. There he got injured. He died at a 43-year-old at a Warsaw hospital.
